Daniel J. Scoppetta, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dan is the founder of GASP. Dan did his undergraduate studies at Harvard University, attended medical school at the University of CT and completed his residency in General Surgery at Hartford Hospital, Hartford, CT. After his residency he went directly into private practice in Bristol, CT where he cared for patients in a community hospital setting. Dan is recently retired after 40 years of active clinical practice at Bristol Hospital, where he assumed various roles, most notably Chief of General Surgery, Chief of Surgery, and Chief of Medical Staff.
For many years prior to focusing on medical missions to Jeremie, Haiti, Dan traveled around the world doing medical missions for various nonprofit groups. For the last several years Dan has been focusing on volunteer surgical efforts in the southern peninsula of Haiti.
Dan's goal is "to apply our surgical skills where needed and mentor Haitian surgeons to be skilled and independent." Together with our local partners, Dan is developing templates, procedures, manuals and guidelines for future generations of both in country and volunteer surgical teams. Dan brings a culture of compassion, continuous improvement and striving for excellence into every aspect of a GASP mission trip to Haiti.
